The quick approaching end of summer brings with it plentiful fresh vegetables and fruits. As gardens and farmer’s markets overflow with ripe produce, we start thinking of ways we can preserve and enjoy it throughout the year. Preservation techniques such as freezing, drying, canning, pickling, smoking, etc. allow us to enjoy the summer’s bounty during the long winter months.

Before diving into the canning season, it is essential to organize and inventory your canning supplies. This includes taking stock of pickling spices, jars, and bottles, and making sure you have the right tools for the job. Essential tools for fruit and vegetable prep can make a big difference.
