Dark brown, small, granular pieces of chicory root that have been roasted.
Often used as a coffee substitute, or blended in equal proportions with ground, dark-roast coffee in order to reduce caffeine intake.
For a New Orleans style coffee, blend 2/3 cup French roast coffee and 1/3 cup chicory root. Brew in a French press, sweeten and add hot milk or cream to your preference.
