Also spelled Sichuan pepper. Szechuan pepper has slight lemony overtones and creates a tingly numbness in the mouth. It was banned from import into the USA from 1968 to 2005. With changes in USDA regulation, it is now available again provided it has been heat treated for 10 hours at 80° Celsius.
